Summary - The Mountain Norbert Joos is a
light-weight wood core ski. A great choice for AT or backcountry
skiers looking to save weight, or as an all around ski.
Volkl worked with European skier Norbert Joos to create the
new Mountain - a big change from the previous model. The result
is a very lightweight wood core ski that is still strong, resiliant,
and capable of holding a solid edge. This ski makes a great
choice for the tele or AT skier looking to save weight without
sacrificing performance. Because of it's weight, the Mountain
will get tossed around a little at the resort and in crud. The
Mountain works in conjunction with Volkl's new skin-clip system.
Pre-trimmed skins attach easily to the unique hole in the tip
of the ski. |
Well-known alpinist Norbert Joos has collaborated
with Völkl on development of an AT ski/skin system. The result
is a new, very light (1180 grams in size 170) ski that remains
very resilient and durable.

Backcountry magazine: ". . . . slightly slimmed down,
resulting in considerable weight savings over last year's
version. (indeed, the two smallest sizes are slimmer still.)
Norbert Joos? He's a well known Euro ski mountaineer who collaborated
with Volkl on a skin system, which explains the conspicuous
hole in the Mountain's tip. It accommodates an adapter for
a skin-a choice of either nylon or nylon/mohair- that is precisely
contoured for each of the Mountain's five sizes."'
Couloir: "Unchanged for this year, the Norbert Joos,
a narrower, traditionally-sculpted ski grips firm ground like
an all-wheel-drive Porsche 911. The Joos is rigid and snappy
with energy o'plenty for punching through lumpy snow and drifts."
