Summary - This is the Hardwire binding
on the Complete Releasable Binding platform. It's got all
the features of the Hardwire, plus lateral and upward release
capability.
Similar to the Rottefella Cobra, the Hardwire uses rigid
cables to connect compression springs to the toe. Not as powerful
as the R8 binding, the Hardwire skis more like the R6. The
wires and spring cartridges have been beefed up over the past
few years, and the result is a very durable binding. A ramped
riser reduces rocker launch - and is compatible with the new
four-hole standard (works with K2's pre-drilled binding inserts).
You can take the Hardwire into the backcountry, but it performs
best on the resort with mid-height or larger boots.
The CRB (stands for Complete Releasable Binding), is the only
tele release system that releases both laterally and upwards.
This system has been around for years, and has remained virtually
unchanged. Many skiers have had problems with release reliability,
and we've heard quite a few complaints that the binding "pre-releases"
when it should stay on the ski. The CRB is a little heavy
and could still use some improvement, but for those skiers
that need a releasable - this binding will likely remain a
popular choice. |
The Hardwire CRB is one of the most complete and feature-rich telemark bindings in our line. You get all the high performance benefits provided with the non-release Hardwire telemark binding in the solid release system of the Hardwire CRB.
Voile has added a solid new innovation to our telemark release binding line. Using our new in-house CAD/CAM design and manufacturing system, we are proud to offer the 20mm V-tech riser. The V-tech riser dramatically improves the overall function and performance of the Voile Release Binding. It provides a consistent release, retention, and is the only telemark release binding that will release in a backward fall. The backward fall is typically how most knee injuries are sustained. Perhaps more importantly, it is recommended equipment for skiing in avalanche prone terrian. Having a release system increases the chance of separation of you and your skis, thus helping to prevent injury and deep burial if caught in an avalanche.
The 20mm V-tech riser is a 2 stage mount, where all hardware is pre-mounted to the riser and the riser is mounted to the ski. The riser has an industry standard 4-hole pattern in order to mount directly to skis with pre-installed threaded inserts.
The 20mm V-tech riser is molded from superior strength glass-filled nylon. The riser platform is ramped to eliminate complications from the natural curve or "rocker" of a telemark boot. Finally, the release unit is factory assembled and tested to provide only the highest quality telemark binding.
A major new benefit, the V-tech riser provides an easier re-entry to the binding after an on-snow release. A deep slot at the rear of the binding riser allows the binding clearance for re-entry, but does not affect the release or retention. With your boot still attached to the binding toe-piece you can step back into the release unit with ease. As a matter of fact, compared to previous models, it takes approx. 50% less force to step back into the binding after an on-snow release.
Available in 2 binding sizes for your boot and 2 ski brake widths for your ski. |
Backcountry magazine: "Venerable
Voile's CRB is virtually the same multidirectional release
telemark binding that has been relied upon for years and
is now available in the Hardwire and 3-Pin Hardwire models.
Unlike the 7TM and TRP-100, the CRB allows for both lateral
and upward release. Release tension is set with the simple
turn of a Voile-supplied key-or the quarter in your pocket.
Like the TRP-100, the CRB release kit is sold alone with
an adapter that accepts other three-hole, nordic-norm mounting
pattern bindings."
Couloir: "Somewhat clunky and unrefined, the CRB is
still a capable member of the voile family. The only tele-release
option with upward release is a little heavy, but certainly
not out of the ballpark..Function, not fashion."
".The addition of Voile's ramped riser will also slightly
increase the active flex of this binding and reduce rocker
launch. Unfortunately that also has the consequence of impeding
touring freedom, but only by a couple of degrees. Voile
added stronger hardened steel rods for the HW cables and
put the pivot point about 1.5 cm forward of where it is
on the 3-Pin HW for a more neutral feel..Skiers who like
the HW tend to ski mid-range boots and skis, experience
frequent good snow, or have the skills not to care what
the conditions are like. Another Voile value binding that
many are attracted to for its clean design and function."
