Summary - The 3-Pin CRB has it all - three
pin touring freedom, Hardwire downhill power, and CRB releasability.
Sure this binding is a little heavy, but it's got all the
best Voile designs in one package.
The 3-Pin Hardwire has been a very popular binding with backcountry
skiers, particularly for those on long trips that need maximum
reliability and versatility. Downhill performance is mare
than adequate, thanks to solid "hardwires" and compression
springs. These wires and spring cartridges have been beefed
up over the past few years to increase binding durability.
A ramped riser reduces rocker launch - and is compatible with
the new four-hole standard (works with K2's pre-drilled binding
inserts). What really makes this binding so cool is the ability
to release the heel throw and tour with only the three pin
toe, allowing unrestricted heel movement. Also, with the redundancy
of both three pins and cables you won't find yourself up the
proverbial creek if something breaks.
The CRB (stands for Complete Releasable Binding), is the only
tele release system that releases both laterally and upwards.
This system has been around for years, and has remained virtually
unchanged. Many skiers have had problems with release reliability,
and we've heard quite a few complaints that the binding "pre-releases"
when it should stay on the ski. Voile has addressed this problem
this year by offering 3 different release spring tensions
- Junior, Standard, and Comp. We'll have to wait and see how
these springs affect binding/release performance. The CRB
is a little heavy and could still use some improvement, but
for those skiers that need a releasable - this binding will
likely remain a popular choice. |
This is the ultimate choice in a backcountry telemark binding. The Hardwire 3-Pin CRB has everything you want in a backcountry touring binding. It has release, control, and a free heel for uphill touring freedom.
The 3-pin and bail toe box is adjustable to provide the best boot/binding fit and performance of any telemark binding available. Add the internal compression spring cartridge heel assembly and you have a uniquely versatile binding. The Hardwire 3-pin heel assembly can be locked on the LP heel for no heel resistence uphill ski touring. You will be amazed at the difference in ski touring without a heel assembly attached to your boot. More importantly it is a redundant system for extended backcountry touring.
Voile has added a solid new innovation to our telemark release binding line. Using our new in-house CAD/CAM design and manufacturing system, we are proud to offer the 20mm V-tech riser. The V-tech riser dramatically improves the overall function and performance of the Voile Release Binding. It provides a consistent release, retention, and is the only telemark release binding that will release in a backward fall. The backward fall is typically how most knee injuries are sustained. Perhaps more importantly, it is recommended equipment for skiing in avalanche prone terrian. Having a release system increases the chance of separation of you and your skis, thus helping to prevent injury and deep burial if caught in an avalanche.
The 20mm V-tech riser is a 2 stage mount, where all hardware is pre-mounted to the riser and the riser is mounted to the ski. The riser has an industry standard 4-hole pattern in order to mount directly to skis with pre-installed threaded inserts. The 20mm V-tech riser is molded from superior strength glass-filled nylon. The riser platform is ramped to eliminate complications from the natural curve or "rocker" of a telemark boot. Finally, the release unit is factory assembled and tested to provide only the highest quality telemark binding.
A major new benefit, the V-tech riser provides an easier re-entry to the binding after an on-snow release. A deep slot at the rear of the binding riser allows the binding clearance for re-entry, but does not affect the release or retention. With your boot still attached to the binding toe-piece you can step back into the release unit with ease. As a matter of fact, compared to previous models, it takes approx. 50% less force to step back into the binding after an on-snow release.
Available in 2 binding sizes for your boot and 2 ski brake widths for your ski. |
Backcountry magazine: "Venerable
Voile's CRB is virtually the same multidirectional release
telemark binding that has been relied upon for years and is
now available in the Hardwire and 3-Pin Hardwire models. Unlike
the 7TM and TRP-100, the CRB allows for both lateral and upward
release. Release tension is set with the simple turn of a
Voile-supplied key-or the quarter in your pocket. Like the
TRP-100, the CRB release kit is sold alone with an adapter
that accepts other three-hole, nordic-norm mounting pattern
bindings."
Couloir: "Somewhat clunky and unrefined, the CRB is
still a capable member of the voile family. The only tele-release
option with upward release is a little heavy, but certainly
not out of the ballpark..Function, not fashion." "With a redesigned
toeplate, and the introduction of a ramped rider that matches
K2's insert pattern, the changes for the 3-pin Hardwire are
promising..Tried and true, but new and improved too. The 3-pin
HW is still one of the most trusted bindings for extended
backcountry travel. The redundancy of cables and pins is unmatched
by any other binding. The 3-Pin HW also provides a simple
switch between uphill freedom, and downhill power. If you
want release, get the CRB option for $8 more. That's $8, not
$80. That's no nonsense value. Put 'em on and go skiing."
