| Summary: Rando Racers take heed!!! The Duo Freerando offers great torsional rigidity and reliability in a race-light package. This is the ski you need to get you up your course quickly and back down safely. Have you looked at a Rando podium lately? You're likely to see a pair of Ski Trabs in the mix. |
Fun. The ultralight freeride ski that uses Trab's Piuma Quadraxial technology to save weight without sacrificing performance. Torsion box construction using carbon reinforced, quadraxial weave glass produces exceptional torsional rigidity while remaining longitudinally soft, delivering a precise ride with great float. The Duo design increases the tip's surface area by 22%, eliminating tip dive while breaking trail and powder skiing. It also shifts the sidecut 9 cm forward, resulting in a more responsive handling ski. The split differentiated tail releases easily from turns and plays an integral role along with the Duo tip in the skin attachment system. A high molecular density sintered base improves glide and resists gouging. Strategically placed rubber eliminates chatter & the 52 HRC steel edges provide great edge hold. The FreeRando is the most versatile, ultralight ski around that rips in all conditions!

Couloir Magazine: "Known as the choice for podium placements at the rando rallies, SkiTrab is pushing the limits of how light a ski can get and still make turns downhill. Mass reduction comes via a variable channel poplar and fir core with a carbon-reinforced quadraxial glass sheath to deliver in one layer the traditional strength of several layers of fiberglass. But does it work? Heavy snow taxes the FreeRando, as you'd expect of a super-light, but in soft snow the FreeRando's soft tip seems perfectly balanced with the solid mid-section that holds a great edge on firm and icy snow, even with speed. Wonder what the dual tip is about? It secures racing skins in place, but it also increases the surface area at the tip by 22% for better floatation in powder, without excess weight."
Skiing magazine: "Many testers thought the skinny, lightweight FreeRando was built more for covering ground than making big descents. But it still packs some oomph. Short-swing turns at lower speeds were effortless and enjoyable. Gripes: Too tour-specific for most recreational backcountry skiers. Props: A great fitness ski."
Backcountry magazine: "Ski Trab's ultralight 'freeride' Duo FreeRando utilizes carbon-reinforced quadraxial glass to strengthen torsional rigidity without gaining weight. And it doesn't sink. The duo design increases shovel surface area, working against tip dive while breaking trail and skiing powder. 'Feather light and floats better than you think.'...Still, such a nimble ski has its limitations. One tester quipped, 'I would grab this ski if my day entailed just going uphill.'"
