Summary - The Cobra R8 telemark binding
is a carving machine. Sold metal wires and big compression
springs provide excellent torsional rigidity and edge pressure.
These bindings are a great match for the hard charging resort
skier with big boots and skis.
The popular Cobra telemark binding now comes in three styles,
the R8, R6, and R4. All three feature a 20mm riser, heel wires,
and a ramped, ice shedding toe plate designed to eliminate
rocker launch. This season the Cobra series bindings will
also have the new "standard" four hole pattern that is compatible
with K2's binding inserts.
The R8 and R6 bindings have a solid cable wire connecting
the toe piece to the compression springs, providing increased
edge pressure and superior carving power for resort skiing
and bigger boots. The R6 has slightly softer spring cartridges
than the R8, but is otherwise identical. The R4 incorporates
a flexible cable, providing a more natural/neutral flex that
feels great in softer snow or while skinning in the backcountry.
All three Cobra models are solid and dependable, and we haven't
seen any major durability issues. |
The Cobra R-series bindings are total telemark
technology. Key words are quality, strength and precision.
Stiffest Cobra R8 springs for driving pressure to ski tips,
and rigid steel connecting rods for minimum lateral movement.
The chrome coated aluminum toe plate is heat treated, as is
the 2 mm steel front bail.
Available in two sizes to fit the following boot sizes: Short
23-28 Mondo and long 26-32 Mondo (approx.).
Total height of binding and riser plate is 30 mm above ski.
For additional height a 10 mm spacer is available.
Specially developed for plastic boots with 18 mm sole profile.

Couloir: ".The combination of solid
cable bars and beefy compression spring cartridges in the
R8 and R6 deliver solid carving power. Nothing new for the
Cobra binding. The R8 has the stiffest springs, for racers
and aggro skiers, while the R6 has a more moderate spring
stiffness marketed for women, though I would say simply for
softer boots. If you want a more neutral binding with acceptable
heel freedom for backcountry forays, the R4 has classic braided
cable wrapped around the toe plate, ala the Riva binding series
and an even softer spring."
Backcountry magazine: ".Cobra returns with cosmetic and
functional changes offering what is perhaps the most versatile
and user-friendly telemark binding available. Especially when
the snow conditions get tough, the Cobra is a reliable favorite
among big-booted, big mountain skiers..The Cobra R8 is Rottefella's
standard, while the female-friendly R6 and touring-friendly
R4 have softer compression springs." |
