Summary: This special edition of the Rossignol Powder Bird lacks a layer of metal laminate in the core, resulting is a soft, wide and lightweight ski, perfect for a backcountry telemark or alpine touring setup. Or take 'em to the resort on a powder day or when conditions are soft!
Yes, leaving out the metal was a mistake, but we think the Powder Bird SE makes a nice addition to Rossignol's line especially for those who like a lighter, softer ski for backcountry and powder conditions.
Be aware that these skis may have a somewhat unstable feel on hardpack and ice since the missing metal sheeting is intended for dampening and torsional stiffness.
Ladies, take note that the Powder Bird minus the metal becomes the Rip Chick! This is a great way to go for women who might have chosen a longer length in the Rip Chick.
