| Summary: Based on the Rossignol Powderbird telemark ski, the Altibird is designed for randonnee skiers who want a light weight ski that's forgiving in the tip yet stable underfoot. At 83mm wide at the waist, it will shred though pow and backcountry conditions yet hold its own on hardpack as well. |
For the skier looking to break away from the lifts and is willing to put in the work to earn their turns.
• 10% on piste; 90% off-piste
• Perfect for the deep powder that the backcountry offers
• Multi purpose and lightweight
Technology:
• Free Dualtec
• Cut away tip for skins
• Shark nose
• Stone ground finish |
Couloir magazine: "The Altibird shares the same dimensions as the Powder Bird, but the Alti Bird's lighter construction is fitting of a randonnee incarnation. Typical of a Rossi, it handled every condition well, making turns easily under what was beneath. The Alti Bird rolled over crud and floated extremely well in the mush, considering its modest girth....Typical of lightweight skis, frozen crud and and icy snow are a challenge, but if you spend your time all over the mountain, especially the untracked side, you'll only notice how well they handle just about everything else."
Skiing magazine: "Light, floaty, and responsive, the Altibird could easily compete in the one-ski-quiver category. With a relatively plump waist it's great for ferreting out stashes. Gripes: No figure 11s here; you need to keep them turning. Props: The waistline and flex facilitate precise turns in steep terrain."
Backcountry magazine: "Unchanged this year, Rossi's no-metal version of the Powder Bird with tip notched for skins, remains a good bet for randonnee. 'It's a solid, round-flexing all-mountain ski that's good in just about anything' ...'Does what it's supposed to do' ...'It's light, moderately floaty, smooth and has good hold.' 'The best of the rando-typical skis. But it competes in bounds with the best of any alpine lot.'" |
