| Karhu Jil Telemark / AT Ski:
Product Review |
|
|
| What the TelemarkSki staff thinks... |
What the manufacturer's Marketing Dept. thinks... |
What independent testers think... |
| Summary: Like a straight-A student on
test day, the Jil won't let you down. She excells in soft
snow and is at home in the backcountry, but she's stable
and responsive on hardpack as well. |
For years, the standard in performace and
versatility in a women's ski, the Jil continues as an ever-growing
favorite for roles ranging from the powder ski of tight Eastern
trees to the reliable day-to-day ride out West. Designed adn
tested by legendary women like Alison Gannett, the jil exceeds
the goal of quickness, response and power in a lightweight
package for telemark or AT. Fast on the uphill and supremely
steady on descent, the Jil will turn heads, carve turns and
grow smiles inbounds or beyond the ropes.

Skiing magazine:
AT: "Thanks to a relatively deep sidecut and a plump waist, the Jil likes to turn and float in soft-snow conditions. Our testers thought this wood-core ski handled well at all but top speeds, favoring it for shorter and midsize turns in powder and corn. Gripes: Gets bumped around in heavy crud. Props: Turn initiation is trouble-free and smooth."
Tele: "If you err on the side of inbounds finesse and backcountry ambition - and want a ski that's as friendly as a Girl Scout during cookie season - the Jil fits the bill. It's responsive, effortless to turn, and has nice pop. Gripes:Seemed flimsy and unstable at interstate speeds. Props: Great backcountry ski for people who want some float."
Backcountry magazine: "The
Jil is for the expert skier who loves to charge"..."With
a girth that wins the widest underfoot category, this ski
likes to be taken into the wild after the deepest stashes
of powder and crud."..."It seemed to attract bigger,
more aggressive testers, looking for a ski they could strong
arm."
Couloir magazine:
"Large and in charge, Ms. Jil continues to be the plus-sized darling of women's skis. Receiving strong marks in all categories, the Jil was popular with the full spectrum of tester skiing styles and sizes. The Jil rewarded aggression from charging ladies who pushed it on edge and found long swoops and a responsive ride down the mountain. On the other hand light, nimble and lively, the Jil was 'light enough for me to pick through anything,' for more laid back skiers. And for any lady pointing it to the powder, the Jils were ready to take them on a white room ride. Fat and light was the equation of versatility for the Jil, a top pick for many of our testers for both resort and backcountry use."
Powder magazine:
"Though the waist stays the
same on this beauty, the Jil gets Titanium Power Claws for
torsional strength and more girth at the tip for a shapelier
profile." |
