Garmont Shaman Alpine Touring Boot: Product Review

What the TelemarkSki staff thinks... What the manufacturer's Marketing Dept. thinks... What independent testers think...
Summary: The Shaman is Garmont's new 'Freeride' boot aimed at uber-aggressive skiers that ski big lines, huck big air, and like to boot pack. It's liner differs from their AT and Tele line with self molding malleoli and an elastic toe for comfort and space. These boots are torsionsally and structurally very stiff and come with both an ISO alpine sole and a rocker-ed ski mountaineering sole. Named for the Native American medicine man, the tribe's "magician", the Shaman is the Garmont tribe's magician with an incredible anatomical fit based on the custom-fit G_1, with more volume for all-day freeriding. Two Shaman soles are available, an ISO alpine sole, bi-injected for durability and easier walking, or a bi-injected, rocker-ed ski mountaineering sole. Patented Shock Damper shock absorber underfoot, one-piece shock-absorbing underfoot wedge.
Skiing magazine:"The new Shaman is an ultra-precise alpine boot tweaked for back and sidecountry use. The high cuff, four buckles, power strap, and fixed spine provide race-boot sensitivity. The declawed fit and interchangeable DIN-releasable lug soles make 'em ready for ridge walks and crampons. One of our favorite new boots."

Backcountry magazine: "Let's call a spade a spade. The Shaman is an alpine boot. Having interchangeable lugged soles doesn't make it AT. That said, the boot was comfy and the high cuff hugged my calves and shins, making it stiff and effective for all-day reliability as long as you're not hiking or skinning very far...this boot is a solid, hard-charging boot for skiing all conditions with confidence. If lapping inside and out of resort boundaries is your thing - meaning downhill touring - this boot is ideal."
