Summary: The G3 Baron is one of the finest
all-around skis out there. Solid and stable on hardpack -
and rips in the soft stuff too.
Put simply - the G3 Baron, designed by Paul Parker, absolutley
rips. This ski is wide enough under-foot to power through
powder, mank and crud, yet super stable on firm snow and
at speed. It isn't the snappiest ski out there, but can turn
quick if you ask 'em to. The Baron is a stable, damp "quiver-of-one"
ski that will make the intermediate to expert skier - tele
or AT - happy in just about any type of snow.

The vagabond of the G3 line,
the Baron is designed to travel. It is the definitive guide's
choice because the mid-fat Baron performs like a beefy ski,
yet it's light enough for touring.
Our most versatile model, we painstakingly developed the Baron for skiers who may encounter breakable crust, wind-buffed snow, powder and hard packed conditions on a single lap. As well-suited as it its for self-propulsion and backcountry stashes, mounted for alpine touring or telemark, the Baron is equally at home on lift-served terrain. It's agile in tight spots yet still predictable and stable at speed. A one-ski quiver, perfect for those with wanderlust.

Backcountry magazine: "When
it comes to skis, the Baron is the "guide" in Genuine
Guide Gear - a utility randonnee ski with reasonable width
and light feel. Overall, the Baron had a fairly royal presence,
which was best at medium to long radius turns and dealt equally
well with hardpack, powder, and crud."
Couloir magazine:"...G3 showed off stability at speed and floation that exceeded our testers' expecatations - especially considering its modest waist width. The wood core yields a classic, smooth flex with ample rebound to execute any radius turn you command. In crud it was solid and damp, an even ride, even in frozen death cookies. For most it didn't ring their bell in a single category, but it didn't disapoint in any either, solid for any level skier, in any set of conditions...Bottom line, it's hard to ignore the implicaion of common descriports like reliable, stable, and obedient." AT: "Most skiers with training heels felt the Baron didn't hold an edge as well as our knee-droppers said, but still felt is was a solid all-around ski thanks to the 'Biggest sweet spot' and a, 'More forgiving attitude.'"
Powder Magazine: "With an aggressive yet accomodating
footprint, and a forgiving, robust build, the G3 Baron was
envisioned from the ground up as a dedicated high-mountain
tool for everything from glacier tours to big descents in
devious crust."
Off-Piste: "The Baron is a work horse ski with a traditionalist demeanor. With a couple of seasons under its belt now, the Baron has proven itself as a solid all mountain board with a damp ride. It is like a modern Tua Excalibur, relatively stiff with a medium radius sweet spot, the Baron will go big when called upon and can get you out of a tight spot if asked. The ski fits a variety of skier styles but stronger skiers will be able to take advantage of its versatility more than novice skiers. |
