G3 Ace Telemark / AT Ski: Product Review
What the TelemarkSki staff thinks... What the manufacturer's Marketing Dept. thinks... What independent testers think...
Summary: With the Baron's dimensions but a pound lighter core, the Ace will appease the weight-conscious yet demanding of performance backcountry traveler. The Ace is our special-edition ski ideal for the weight-conscious.

Using the Baron's footprint, the Ace is ultra-light on your feet. It's .45kg/1lb lighter per pair than its high-flying cousin. The Ace is built for those who prefer lightweight skis to get them to the summit of their favorite backcountry stash, but won't accept anything less than crisp, solid arcs when gravity calls for the trip down. It's the best touring ski we've ever skied.

Skiing magazine:
"'Dainty,' for a touring ski, ain't always a bad thing. The Ace is easy to unweight, skedaddles through bumps and tight spots, and carves lively arcs - for everyone but the heaviest. Gripes: Some tester thought it seemed flat. 'No huevos,' said one. Props: Holds a descent edge at cruising speeds."

Off-Piste: "Essentially a Baron with lightweight construction, the Ace takes the utility of the Baron and gives it a touring bias. The lighter swing weight brings the ski around a bit quicker and the 1lb per pair weight difference makes for a nice uphill stride. The Ace has its own personality, a bit more responsive and a bit less damp than the Baron. A dedicated touring board for sure."

Couloir: "At first glance, the Ace is simply the lightweight version of the Baron. With shared dimensions, it has equal flotation in smooth, deep snow. Though lighter often means a compromise coming, the Ace's was surprisingly small. Some testers felt it get pushed around a little more in crud and sink in the mank, but not all. The 'Ace is the place,' said one, while another crooned it was a 'Focused flier.' Others considered it the ultimate tool for ski mountaineers, or at least 50/50 skiers splitting resort and BC. Tester Greg Floyd said it best: 'The Ace handles great for one pound of shed weight.'"
AT:
"Backing up the telemark testers, our AT guys found the Ace to hold its own at high speed and ride a strong edge on hardpack, the two critical areas where most lightweight skis lose their composure."

Backcountry magazine: "Linked with the Baron (BC archived), on the History Channel, and by the same mold, the Ace has a lighter layup for weight-conscious skiers. East Coast and West, the Ace was a frequent flier for many testers...'Solid in most conditions - didn't get kicked around much, good at speed' ...'Ace is the place' ... 'Gives one confidence. Good ski for going 50/50 resort and backcountry.' Other West Coast skiers preferred the heft of the Baron for changeable conditions. East Coast skiers were not as finicky: 'This ski has bounce while it lacks chatter' ...'Although not a fatty, the nose stayed afloat in the deep pow' ...'Nice and light touring ski. Took it on a crud and bumps and it held its own.'"
