| Black Diamond Lyric Telemark
/ AT Ski: Product Review |

Summary: Black Diamond's new women's ski,
the Lyric, is based off the wide Havoc but lighter and with
a more forgiving tail. It's designed for hard-charging women
skiers and performs well both in the deep and on hardpack,
mounted either tele or AT.
The Black Diamond Lyric answers women skier's request for
a women's specific ski for gals who rip. The Lyrics haven't
been over-softened or over-lightened... take the super-stiff
Havoc as a point of reference for this one. The Lyrics will
probably be most appreciated by those with a strong skiing
style, but their light weight feel and smooth exit from a
turn will bring smiles from anyone who tries it either for
tele or AT. |
The new women's Lyric is built to the same
wide dimensions as the Havoc, with Dual Torsion Bow technology,
C-matrix construction and 3-D Densolite core, but weighs in
noticeably lighter and has a more forgiving tail, resulting
in easier and quicker transitions with smoother arcs than the
Havoc. Our sponsored skiers Kasha Rigby and Leslie Ross developed
and skied these fat carvers throughout the world to ensure different
skiing styles and intensity levels and the ski met our goal
of efficient power.

Skiing magazine:
"The Lyric is the softer-flexing sister of the Havoc, a proven and versatile charger. Could be too feisty for less aggressive skiers" but "moves fluidly and confidently from crud to pow to hardpack."
Backcountry Magazine: "The Lyric is the brute sister
to BD's Havoc. ...made for bombing through stiff crud and
maching down big, wide open slopes. Take heed: the Lyrics
can plow you down if you've got a light touch or prefer a
quick, short turning ski."
Couloir magazine: "Big-mountain charger, the Lyric has your number. A burly ride for hard-skiing ladies, the Lyric offered up oomph as one of the stiffest and longest skis in the women's test. With moderate skidecut, the testers all noted the AK-sized turn radius. Smaller skiers of course found it sluggish from turn to turn, but the bigger, aggressive skiers went straight into sweet arcing heaven down any straight line they chose. 'Once on edge, turns all the way to China. Tracks well, no tail-wash.' Still surprisingly light, the Lyrics are a great accomplice to kicking your boyfriend's butt down that backcountry couloir he's been bragging about." AT: "Locked and loaded, the Lyric's all-out approach took on the added torque of parallel turns and alpine boots with grace. Plowing through everything, yet floaty enough to surf the powder, the Lyric was a great choice for the go-go-go skier. For experienced and aggressive skiers, the Lyric will take you on and off-piste with attitude." |
