| Black Diamond Frantic Telemark
/ AT Ski: Product Review |

| What the TelemarkSki staff thinks... |

What independent testers think... |
Summary - The Frantic is Black Diamond's
narrowest ski. It performs best at the ski area, but is suitable
for BC skiing too - quick and stable with a softer flex.
The Black Diamond Frantic is a great choice for those
who find themselves skiing resort groomers and hardpack the
majority of their time on skis, or for those looking for an
ultraweight touring/mountaineering ski for either AT or telemark
use. The Frantic, like the Nunyo, is suitable for beginning
telemark skiers but also for those more advanced in their
technique who would rather ski on a narrower ski.
|
The new Frantic picks up where the Nunyo left
off. The same versatile dimensions that made the Nunyo a popular
randonnee ski in Europe have been energized by the addition
of a 3-D Hybrid Densolite/wood core and the redesign of a stiffer
tail. The traditional geometry of the 73mm waist carves harder
on-piste and slices tight chutes better than any other ski we
offer.

Backcountry magazine: "The Frantic
is the successor to the Nunyo. According to BD, the Frantic
is designed for steep slopes and hard snow-the latter validated
by tester response. "Keep this ski in the fall-line,"
said one. "Great at high speeds."
Couloir magazine: "In a category that best reflects the 'old school' aesthetics of earning your turns, the Frantic holds the line for skiers that know what they want before they even walk in the store. A mountaineering ski that's fast from edge to edge, the Frantic's strengths were edgehold, snappy quickness on the steeps and a hammock-fast swingweight for must-make turns. Skiers new to lift-serve and hardpack lovers will find the Frantic fun to ride on-piste all day, but this is really a ski that's happiest gobbling UP vertical in the backcountry and making lightly edged, slalom-style fall-line turns." AT: "Talk about consistency; throughout our test the Frantic tested most closely as an AT as it did as a tele ski. Our locked-heel testers said this is a mountaineering ski for true backcountry skiers looking for a reliable pair of boards that will get them easily up and down the hill all day. From quick skin-ups to quick mountaineering descents, these babies get the job down. If you're racing uphill for points, or up and down for peaks, you need to take a long look at these boards."
Skiing magazine:
"Testers raved about the Frantic's lack of pork, calling it 'light and easy' and 'perfect for milking low-angle pow'. When the day calls for heavy-duty ascents and light-duty descents, the Frantic delivers." The ski "gets sloppy when pushed on the downhills" but offers "top-notch uphill and touring performance." |
