Summary - Back as one of the hottest skis and sized right in between the
Kongur and the Diran, the Tacora is a great all-mountain choice for
skiers who aren't always in soft snow.
If you tried the TM:X and thought it was just a little
too wide and stiff for you, you'll probably love the Tacora.
It is more stable and will float better than the TM:22,
but still feels light and quick under-foot.
The Tacora is a fantastic "quiver-of-one" choice for
skiers who spend about half of their time on groomed slopes
and the other half off-piste or in the backcountry. It'll also
make an excellent all-around alpine touring ski. |
Tacora volcano- 5,980 meters, Chile
New from the ground up, the Tacora offers incredibly light weight
with a mixture of bouyancy and ripping hardpack performance.
Its 80mm waist and Beta construction sets new standards for
all mountain all conditions performance.
-Beta-Technology
-Magnesium Cap
-Chrome Topsheet
-Densolite Core
The Tacora has a great all mountain sidecut. With its 113mm tip and 80mm waist it has a deep sidecut that provides excellent edge grip along with easy turn initiation. The tip is wide enough and the longitudinal flex in the shovel is soft enough that its soft snow flotation is quite good. The torsional rigidity is stiff enough that along with the 80mm waist it will offer excellent control in icey conditions. |
Backcountry magazine: "Most testers
cited its lightness and the palpable contrast between a somewhat
soft tip and stiffer tail-flow in front, kick in back."..."a
good ski for someone looking to get into a versatile lightweight
backcountry ski."
Couloir magazine: "If you're new to tele, or upgrading from the realm of skinny, you'll find the Tacora is a perfect fit. With a snappy sidecut, it makes small-to-medium radius turns without thinking. Combining decent flotation with solid edgehold is enough to label it versatile. And when it cut through crud with aplomb, one tester deemed it the ski equivalent of the sharp pocketknife. Those used to fatter skis and big boots to drive them may be underwhelmed by this mid-fat, as the relatively narrow tail sometimes washed out, and, in parrallel mode, tended to overturn. If you're riding a mid-height three-buckle boot though, or a soft-flexing four-buckle, performance should run right in line with the testers the Tacroa impressed."
Powder magazine: "The Tacora meets Atomic's time-tested
reputation by answering your challenges on hardpack while
providing enough stability for off-piste action."
Off-Piste magazine: "The Tacora offers a lively feel with a firm snow bias. With more sidecut than the Kongur it carves well in firmer snows and makes a good resort ski and mountaineering board. It has a short radius turn bias and several testers suggested it would shine as a spring AT ski." |
