Summary - The Kongur replaced the super-popular
TM:X. Just like its predecessor, this is a ripping all mountain
ski for big mountain riders with an aggressive style.
Although the Atomic Kongur excels off-piste, its 24m turning
radius and solid flex can handle groomed and hardpack well.
The Kongur shares the same shape as the TM:X, but adds a magnesium
cap to reduce the ski's weight by nearly a quarter-pound.
Like the other skis in Atomic's line, the Kongur skis equally
well mounted with telemark and Alpine Touring bindings. This
is still on of the best "quiver-of-one" skis ever
made.

The Kongur is our widest all-mountain ski. Even though the shovel is fairly wide at 117mm, the change to the waist at 84mm is a deep enough sidecut that the ski can respond quickly in turning and hold an edge effectively in hard packed conditions. Its overall width combined with the smooth longitudinal flex make it a nice flotation ski in deep and soft snow. The Kongur performs well in a broad range of conditions for both on and off piste conditions. |
Backcountry magazine: "Very neutral
ski, very versatile. A very forgiving ski that responds to
the skier. Smooth flowing over most terrain. Lightweight,
all-around ski."..."A solid feeling ski with good
edge hold."
Couloir magazine: "Only the colors changed on the Kongur this year, but that doesn't account for the positive vibe the Kongur delivers. Ratings in firm snow and at speed were universally high, soliciting comments like, 'Crisp edge-to-edge feeling' or... 'Easy,' thanks to a snappy rebound from a stiff tail. For its ample size, the Kongur still feels light, delivering a good balance between weight and all-around performance."
AT: "Locked-heel skiers echoed the ability to carve with stability at speed, saying the Kongur was afraid of nothing, blasting through crud or whatever else might get in its way. It has a huge sweet sport allowing skiers to work the entire ski throughout the turn. As even our snobbiest riders said, it's a 'real' ski."
Off-Piste: "The Kongur, true to its Austrian roots, is a traditionalist ski. Its healthy waist gives it the all mountain all snow versatility of its predecessor the TMX and its relatively shallow sidecut keeps it popular with experienced skiers. It excels at mixed snow conditions and medium radius turns but it is not a quick response firm snow ski. The Kongur is a work horse that can do it all. Testers with a bias for a more responsive board preferred Atomic's new Kailas."
Couloir: "When the powder settled and numbers crunched,
the TMX rose to the top of the heap as the all-purpose, all-skier
board, a harmonic convergence of design and materials. Telemark
or AT, inbounds or out, jump turns or cruising, beginner to
expert, freeride or long tours, powder or packed-- this eminently-pleasing
ski excels in all. Not universally number one, but every tester
ranked the TMX's flex, aggressiveness, stability, and carving
prowess high enough to rise to the top overall."
