When buying skis and binding from us and having our shop mount them, our ski techs need some information. For standard Telemark mounts, we need an accurate boot sole length. This is a 3 digit number in mm that is sometimes raised in the plastic on the heel of the boot. If we have the make, model and Mondo size of your boot, then we can get that number easily. You can also get this number by measuring the length of the sole from the heel to the 3-pin line (see image below).
For Alpine Touring mounts or Telemark mounts with a releasable binding like the 7tm, we need 5 pieces of information to set your DIN. Your DIN setting determines the amount of torque required for your bindings to release. We need accurate height, weight, age, skier type and boot sole length. Height, weight, and age are straightforward, but read on to get an idea of your skier type and how to accurately measure your boot sole length.
Skier Type (1, 2,or 3).
Type 1: Cautious or lightweight skiers that prefer slower speeds and ski conservatively.
Type 2: Moderate skiers that ski at various speeds in various terrain. If you do not identify with Type 1 or Type 3, this is what you should choose.
Type 3: Aggressive skiers at high speeds that prefer steep and challenging terrain. Skiers choosing type 3 prioritize ski retention over releasability.
If you are buying your boots from us as well, this is a no brainer. If you already have boots, sometime if we have the same boot in stock, we can get the boot sole length easily. For older models, or times of the year where our stock may be low, we may ask that you measure the boot sole length at home so that we can accurately mount your bindings. |
